February is a Time for Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving one and all!
What!?! Did I read that right?
Yes, February is a time for all scouts to give thanks to our Founder of the Scouting program:
Lord Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell.
Lord Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell was born on Feb 22, 1857, and the world celebrates Founder's Day on the 22nd of February.
Without Baden Powell we would not have a scouting program as we know it today.
Most cub packs celebrate their Blue and Gold ceremonies in February, but most do not know why the Blue and Gold Ceremonies occur in Feb. other than tradition.
"We always have our Blue and Gold's in February...can't have them any other time. Don't know why we have just done them in February."
Well, this is the time for us, as scouts and scouters , to remember the founder of the Boy Scouts and give thanks for his foresight to create a youth program rich in values, traditions, and virtues.
It is truly amazing that 100 yrs. ago someone created a program that is still current and thriving today and Baden Powell's wisdom and philosophy stills applies to the modern youth as it did a century ago.
So if you haven't had your Blue and Gold ceremony yet; there is still time to remember our founder Baden Powell and all of the rest of the great leaders in our scouting history.

I remember my old scout troop would always close the meeting with this prayer:

"Now may the Great Master of all great scouts,
Be with us and stay with us.
Until we meet again."

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
